Tap Dungeon Swordsman

Swordsman is the class Xiao5 Studios leads with: crush foes with heavy blades. The demo’s English announcement also calls the default melee role Warrior. Until a patch splits those words into two kits, this page treats them as the same first-run job. If you are opening Tap Dungeon for the first time, this is the coat that lets you learn the card maze without a dissertation. Pair it with getting started and how to play.

What the store actually promises

Heavy blade. Crush. Completely different combat style from the other four. Free mixing afterwards. That is the whole official paragraph. There is no public English skill tree with named slashes we can paste. So the play advice is about job, not about fake cooldown numbers.

Your job is to make a tile die because you hit it, not because a potion exploded or a shadow proc fired. When an event offers a novelty staff or a glass cannon relic, ask whether it still lets you crush. If the answer is no, leave it. The artifact page is full of trades that tempt a Swordsman into becoming a confused Mage.

Demo advantage

Warrior is the default in the two-floor preview. You do not need to unlock it. That makes Swordsman the class you should use to learn:

  • Event tooltips that subtract HP.
  • The numbered skill strip.
  • The floor-lord gate described in the dungeon guide.
  • When to rebirth instead of tapping one more key.

Assassin is the other demo class and it asks for more discipline. Read Assassin second, not first, unless burst is already your favourite toy in every crawler.

First-run plan

  1. Take HP-positive or HP-neutral events. Skip the gold pit if you are not full.
  2. Spend potions on the floor lord, not on the first snake card.
  3. Mix one support tool that helps hits land — not four random bombs.
  4. Ignore hidden bosses until you have cleared a lord with HP to spare.
  5. After a clean floor, look at starter builds if you want a second identity.

What bricks a Swordsman

Armor-brick enemies. Launch-week players described targets that ignored a 30-damage skill. A heavy-blade fantasy feels personal when that happens. The response is not “the class is fake.” The response is a support mix: whatever in your bag exists to handle defense, plus a rebirth if nothing in the bag does. The build guide is the mixing rule. Cycling 1–7 because every icon is lit is how you prove the brick is still a brick.

Greedy keys also brick you. A silver key that costs 15 HP is a bad crush. Dead Swordsmen do not crush.

Mixing with the rest of the roster

  • Assassin tools are legal and often tempting. One burst window as a finisher is a support. A full shadow identity is a different run.
  • Mage range toys are bait if they ask you to stop hitting.
  • Alchemist potions are the panic button you actually want.
  • Guardian bulk is the other panic button. If you keep dying to events rather than fights, you wanted Guardian, not a bigger sword.

Sub-classes in the full version should reinforce crush or let you live long enough to crush. A sub-class that wants you to bombard is a dual kit. Dual kits fail floor lords.

Who should pick Swordsman

Pick it if you want the game’s tutorial role, if the demo is all you own, or if you are tired of dying to tooltips. Skip it if you already know the maze and you came for potions, range, or stealth flavour. The class picker will say the same thing with fewer paragraphs. The tier list may move this role up or down after more patches; launch week it is the reliable teacher, not a hidden overtuned monster.

When you can crush a floor without thinking, you have permission to play fashion. Until then, hit the tile.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Launch-week answers for new adventurers from the Duchy of Lyle.

Is Swordsman the same as Warrior?

Demo notes say Warrior; the store says Swordsman. This wiki treats them as the default heavy-blade class until Xiao5 splits them.

Is Swordsman good in the demo?

It is the default. Use it to learn events and the floor lord before you unlock Assassin.

Should Swordsman take every artifact?

No. Keep relics that help you crush. The rest is a junk drawer. See artifacts.

What do I read next?

Sibling classes Assassin and Guardian, plus the build guide.
